Bako Sahakyan reelected President of Artsakh
With 28 “for”, the National Assembly of Artsakh elected Bako Sahakyan President of the Artsakh Republic during a July 19 special session.
According to Artsakhpress, this is what chairperson of the counting committee Romela Dadayan announced after summing up the results of the closed secret voting held a short while ago.
Eduard Aghabekyan garnered four votes.
Expressing gratitude for the confidence, the President-elect stated that he would continue with more vigor and new programs for the development and prosperity of Artsakh.
Out of the 33 Deputies, 32 were attending the session.
Member of the faction of the Democracy Party Armo Tsaturyan was absent for excusable reasons.
Let us add that the three factions of the National Assembly of Artsakh (Homeland, Democracy and Dashnaktsutyun) had nominated incumbent President Bako Sahakyan. The Parliament’s only independent Deputy Arsen Arstamyan had also endorsed the incumbent President. Twenty one votes were enough to be elected in the office of transitional president.
In accordance with Article 168 of the Constitution of Artsakh, the President of the Republic elected by the Parliament shall serve until the end of the powers of the existing National Assembly, that is, 2020, after which the nationwide presidential elections will be held in Artsakh.
