Meeting of Armenian Ambassador to Lebanon Samvel Mkrtchyan and Mayor of Jbeil-Byblos Ziad Hawat

On July 5, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Lebanon Samvel Mkrtchyan had a meeting with Mayor of Jbeil-Byblos Ziad Hawat, reported the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hayern Aysor.
The mayor of Jbeil-Byblos presented the activities of the 18-member city council (one of the members of which is Lebanese-Armenian Joseph Bezajian), as well as the development programs, touristic infrastructures and the demographic situation in Byblos.
During the meeting, the sides touched upon the opportunities for cooperation with Armenia, underlined the need for the establishment and development of relations in the cultural and tourism sectors, considered the organizing of exhibitions of samples of paintings and historic material culture and the participation in music festivals preferable, as well as considered the opportunities for reciprocal visits in the near future.
Reference: Byblos is one of the world’s oldest and permanently inhabited cities with a 7,000-year history. The first records of Byblos date back to the 4th century B.C. The city was founded by the Phoenicians and is located at the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, just 32 km away from Beirut. Byblos has a population of 70,000 and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
