Words can’t describe how happy the Armenians of Córdoba were to meet with RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan

In an interview with Hayern Aysor, President of the Armenian community of Córdoba Eduardo Toutoushian shared his impressions of the visit and meetings of Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan to Córdoba on June 1.

“On June 1, Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan visited the Armenian community of Córdoba. This was the first time the Armenian community of Córdoba was receiving such a high-ranking and honorable guest from the Mother Homeland ever since the Republic of Armenia declared its independence 26 years ago.

Words can’t describe how happy the Armenians of Córdoba were. First, the Minister had a meeting with Mayor of Córdoba Ramón Javier Mestre. Hranush Hakobyan attached importance to the meeting held in a very warm atmosphere and noted that the time had come to work more closely.

The Minister invited the mayor to Armenia to personally see and get to know Armenia, which is developing on a daily basis. In his turn, the mayor stressed the role that the Armenian community plays in the city and the achievements that it has made.

After the meeting, the parties exchanged gifts. Hranush Hakobyan also met with Prime Minister of Córdoba Juan Carlos Massei. In a warm atmosphere, they discussed the opportunities and perspectives of the joint partnership in various sectors.

Juan Carlos Massei stressed the importance of the Armenian community in life in Córdoba and emphasized that the Armenian community has always supported the improvement of life in Córdoba in the social, cultural and other sectors and has undertaken constructive initiatives. Perhaps the most touching and most impressive meeting was the meeting with the teachers and students of the local Armenian school.

During the short meeting, the children tried to present their knowledge of the Armenian language. After reciting Armenian poems and performing Armenian songs, they handed their letters expressing sincere wishes to the Minister. During her conversation with the children, Hranush Hakobyan was introduced to the rich history and current problems of the Sahag-Mesrop Armenian School in detail.

The Armenians of Córdoba are thankful for the fact that Hranush Hakobyan also solved the problem with textbooks during her visit.

The visits to the local Armenian clubs and the St. George Church showed that the Armenians of Córdoba live as Armenians. The members of the Armenian community expressed their gratitude to RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan and voiced hope that their next meeting would be in the Homeland.”
