New discoveries expected at melik mansion in Artsakh’s Togh

Interesting facts about Artsakh and particularly the melikdom of Dizak may be revealed, if the inscriptions on tombstones documented based on excavations conducted in the premises of the “Melik Mansion of Togh” Historical and Cultural Reserve are completely deciphered.
This is what Head of the Department of Tourism at the Ministry of Economy of the Artsakh Republic Arman Grigoryan told Artsakhpress.
“The members of the archaeological expedition of the “State Service for Protection of Historic Environments” SNCO have cleaned and excavated the premises of the reserve and have carried out works in the necropolis situated north from the St. Hovhannes Church, which is located in the area.
The members have excavated 24 tombstones dating back to the 17th-18th centuries. Most of them contain inscriptions. There are also various tombstones portraying scenes of hunting and feasting,” the Head of the Department noted and added that there might be more discoveries since, based on historical facts, there should also be the tombstones of meliks in the necropolis.
