Armenian FM: “Azerbaijan’s aggression against Artsakh in April 2016 caused a very serious blow to the negotiation process”

Negotiations over the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are not underway since Azerbaijan’s aggression against the people of Artsakh in April of last year caused a very serious blow to the process of negotiations.

This is what RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandyan said during a March 10 joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Kotzias.

“And that is exactly the reason why Armenia and the co-chairing countries continue to take steps to create conditions to advance the negotiations. This was the goal of the summits in Vienna and Saint Petersburg. It is clear that Armenia, the co-chairs and Azerbaijan are speaking in different languages. Azerbaijan is the one refusing to implement the agreements reached in Vienna and Saint Petersburg,” Nalbandyan emphasized.

The Minister asked whether Azerbaijan is ready for a peaceful settlement and wants to resolve the issue through negotiations when it refuses to implement the agreements that are reached.

Edward Nalbandyan stressed the fact that, in any case, there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of the conflict and negotiations.

“We continue to take steps to create relevant conditions to continue the process of negotiations. This is exactly why the Co-Chairs of the Minsk Group are visiting Azerbaijan. On 27 March, the Co-Chairs will visit Armenia and will also pay a visit to Nagorno-Karabakh,” Edward Nalbandyan informed, reported 168.amm.

In closing, the Minister emphasized that the events such as the events that took place in April of last year need to be ruled out for the restart of negotiations.
