Istanbul-Armenian MP reminded Turkish MPs about Western Armenian feminist women

Female deputy representing Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP) Selina Dogan talked about the new draft law on violence against women in the Mejlis.

According to Agos Weekly, in her speech during the plenary session, Dogan reminded the attending MPs about Western Armenian women writers and intellectuals who were the first feminists in Turkey.

Dogan showed the Turkish version of the book “Cry for Justice”, which is devoted to the lives and careers of Armenian feminist writers, intellectuals and women’s rights activists, including Elbis Gesaretyan, Srpouhi Dussap, Zabel Asatur, Zabel Yesayan and Haikanush Mark, writes ermenihaber.am.

Dogan stated that the book contained major historical information about the struggle that women led for their rights in the Ottoman Turkish society. Dogan also provided the Members of the Turkish Mejlis with information about the activities of the mentioned women.
