Event dedicated to Hrant Dink’s memory held in Stockholm

On January 19, Members of Parliament, intellectuals, journalists, as well as members of non-governmental organizations and representatives of national minorities participated in a commemorative event dedicated to the 10th death anniversary at the ABF Center in Stockholm, reported the press service of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Hayern Aysor.

In his speech, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Sweden Artak Apitonyan touched upon Dink’s legacy and stated that Hrant Dink was one of the exceptional figures who openly talked about the need for the expansion of dialogue between neighboring nations in Turkey and was one of the first who dared to speak about the Armenian Genocide with the certainty that the two nations can overcome the consequences of genocide through combined efforts. According to the Ambassador, today, a decade after the murder of Dink, many people inspired by his example are raising the torch of his struggle for democracy, as well as the equality and protection of human rights of all national minorities in Turkey.

Among the speakers at the event were MP, President of the Swedish Committee on Human Rights in Turkey Desire Petrus; General Secretary of PEN Association Ana Livion Ingvarson; President of the Swedish Association of Journalists Jonas Nordling; representative of Amnesty International Sweden Andrea Bodekul; deputy head of SvD Daily Anders Bjorkman; President of the Kurdish Coordinating Council in Sweden Keya Izol and well-known Swedish journalist Kurdo Baksi. Among other speakers were representatives of the Swedish-Armenian community, including President of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of Sweden Arshak Gavafian, as well as the Council’s speaker and genocide expert Vahagn Avetyan and the community’s pastor Yeghishe Avetisyan.
