Armenians’ compatriot St. Servatius spread Christianity in Holland

Maastricht is the oldest and the most well-known city in Holland and the city from where Christianity spread across the country. In 354, a compatriot of the Armenian nation, Saint Servatius, who was the first bishop in Maastricht and in the Belgian city of Tongeren, was the one who spread Christianity in Holland. He died in 384. The St. Servatius Cathedral was built on his tomb in Maastricht, and recently, the Ani Armenian community of Maastricht placed a cross-stone in the yard of the cathedral in honor of the Armenians’ compatriot.

As the Ani Armenian community of Maastricht and the St. Karapet Armenian Church reported to Hayern Aysor, on November 6, John Dautzenberg was ordained a supreme archimandrite at the St. Servatius Cathedral during a large ceremony attended by the mayor and regional governor, as well as members of the parochial council of the St. Karapet Church and Vicar of the Patriarchal Delegate of Western Europe in Holland, Fr. Archimandrite Aren Shahinyan.

In his opening speech, chairman of the parochial council of the St. Servatius Church, Mr. Khaumans stated that it was a glory for everyone that the compatriots of St. Servatius were attending the ceremony.
