Armenia and Iraq are interested in developing partnership

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received the governmental delegation led by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Roush Nuri Shaueys. The head of government expressed satisfaction with the level of partnership and mentioned that the partnership is successful. “Armenia attaches importance to and is interested in the development and deepening of relations with Iraq. We see that there is great potential for the expansion of cooperation, the brilliant evidence of which is the significant growth of the trade turnover in the past year,” the Prime Minister said.

Mentioning that Iraq is also interested in the development of relations with Armenia, Nuri Shaueys mentioned that his delegation includes a large group of Iraqi businessmen whose goal is to establish new contacts with their Armenian partners.

The sides attached importance to the organizing of direct flights between the two countries and the facilitation of the visa regime. According to the Prime Minister, Armenian construction firms are also interested in participating in the field-related programs in Iraq. Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister welcomed that idea and expressed willingness to discuss that with Iraqi government officials.

Touching upon Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union, Tigran Sargsyan mentioned that Armenia can serve as a bridge for the strengthening of Iraq’s relations with CU member countries. Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Armenia’s membership to the CU, which will only contribute to the development of economic relations and the implementation of new projects.

The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister transmitted the warm greetings of his country’s Prime Minister to Tigran Sargsyan. In his turn, the head of the Armenian government asked the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister to transmit his invitation to visit Armenia at an appropriate time.

After the talks, RA Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial Administration and Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq Roush Nuri Shaueys signed an agreement on cooperation in the spheres of economy, trade, science and technology in the presence of Tigran Sargsyan.
