Pro-Kurdish Democratic Party of Nations to file lawsuit to the ECHR against Turkey

Turkey’s pro-Kurdish oppositional Democratic Party of Nations (HDP) is preparing to file a lawsuit to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) over the apprehension of its members.

According to İlerihaber.com, the HDP has established a legal committee led by the political party’s lawyers.

According to Ermenihaber.am, the committee will also appeal to the Turkish Constitutional Court to appeal the detention of the Members of Parliament. It is stated that the committee is also examining the statements made by Binali Yildirim and Turkish ministers before and after the apprehension of the HDP Members of Parliament in order to attach them to the lawsuit.

The committee has already informed the ECHR about the lawsuits that are being drafted.

On the morning of 4 November, police apprehended co-chairs of the HDP Selahettin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, as well as nine other deputies representing the political party. The court has rendered a decision on imprisonment for nine of the apprehended, including two co-chairs. The members of the HDP are accused of collaborating with terrorist groups. Demirtas has already been transferred to the prison in Edirne, while Yuksekdag has been transferred to the prison in Kojaeli.
