Canon players of Moscow’s “Hayordats Tun” Armenian School win first prize at international competition
From October 26 to 28, Moscow hosted the 6th international and multi-genre “Во имя жизни на земле” (For the Sake of Life in the World) competition-festival. Canon players Angelica Tarverdyan and Arpi Avetisyan, students of Iskuhi Karapetyan at the “Hayordats Tun” Armenian School of Moscow, won first prize in the Instrumental Performance category and received cups and diplomas, as reported the information center of “Hayordats Tun” Armenian School to Hayern Aysor.
The very first sounds of the canon caused a commotion among the members of the jury, but nobody could get an impression from even the looks on their faces. The members of the jury were merited artists, cultural figures and performing artists of the Russian Federation.
Arpi Avetisyan and Angelica Tarverdyan performed in different age groups. Angelica Tarverdyan, who has participated in quite a lot of competition-festivals, mentioned that she was worried about Arpi because this was the first time she was participating in a competition and performing individually. However, both Arpi and Angelica were awarded with the first prize. Arpi gladly said that she was grateful to her parents who had convinced her to learn to play the canon and added that she loves the sounds of the canon so much that she always waits for her lessons impatiently.
“Armenian rhythms are difficult and close to our hearts, but we managed to perform the songs in such a way that even the foreign members of the jury liked them and expressed their high appraisal. I must say that “Hayordats Tun” Armenian School’s pianist Arusyak Papikyan has also helped us canon players achieve victories and win high awards. She inspires the canon players with her accompaniment and longstanding experience,” Iskuhi Karapetyan said, adding that Angelica and Arpi also owe it to their parents for their successes since they consistently make sure the girls take canon lessons.
