Ambassador Nazaryan delivers speech during session of UN General Assembly First Committee
On October 30, RA Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Karen Nazaryan delivered a speech devoted to the item “Measures for Confidence-Building in the Region” on the agenda for the session of the UN General Assembly’s First Committee held on the sidelines of the 68th sitting of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Mentioning that those measures are the important component for the establishment and maintenance of international peace and security, Nazaryan touched upon Azerbaijan’s ongoing threats against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, the increase in military expenditures, as well as the arms race that has unleashed as a result of that and the provocations on the border.
Karen Nazaryan mentioned that Azerbaijan continues to deny not only the fundamental principles for peaceful settlement proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, but also the proposals for confidence-building measures, including the dislocation of snipers from the line of contact and the creation of a mechanism to lead an investigation into the ceasefire violations.
The Ambassador underlined that the application of force can’t lead to the solution of the problems and that there is no alternative to a settlement of the conflict through negotiations, reports the RA MFA press office to “Hayern Aysor”.
