Regional Council of Basilicata unanimously recognizes the Armenian Genocide

On September 27, the Regional Council of Italy’s Basilicata (Consiglio Regionale della Basilicata) unanimously recognized the Armenian Genocide, expressing its solidarity with the Armenian people. The draft resolution was submitted by independent MP Aurelio Pace, who had paid heed to the request of the Armenian community.
The resolution states that the Armenian Genocide has been recognized by several international organizations, as well as the Turkish military tribunal in 1919. The document also emphasizes that it is necessary to raise awareness about the tragedy that the Armenian people survived, especially among the young generation in order to prevent the repetition of such crimes in the future.
The Regional Council of Basilicata is the 108th regional council having recognized the Armenian Genocide at the level of local self-government bodies.
