The Fortress of Van Included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List

The fortress of Van, the historic capital city of Armenia, that is located today in Turkey, has been incuded in UNESCO’s World Heritage list. This information was published by the Turkish haber.sol.org news website. According to ermenihaber.am, the head of UNESCO’s National Committee in Turkey Ojal Oghouz confirmed, that the decision was adopted in April, but UNESCO announced it only lately. Beside the fortress of Van and based on Turkey’s application to UNESCO, nine other historic and cultural structures and locations were included in the World Heritage list.

 It’s worth noting that another Armenian historic capital, the city of “a thousand and one churches” – Ani was also included in UNESCO’s World Heritage list in July.
