Turkish-Armenian jeweler selling jewels with Ararat brand name

Despite some hardships, there is a demand in the Turkish market and it is possible to find jobs.
This is what head of Ararat Jewellery Ercan Karapekmez, who is of Armenian descent, told NEWS.am.
The company used to have a different name, but Karapekmez decided to rename it. Moreover, the Turkish authorities haven’t created artificial difficulties for him.
“There was no difficulty at all. There are various brand name companies in Turkey that can use that name. I have even seen the Turks use that name,” Karapekmez stated.
The company mainly sells its jewels in Turkey. Compared to previous years, there is less demand, but the master says there is still some demand in a big country like Turkey.
“The whole world is in trouble, and so is Turkey. However, there are 20,000,000 people in Istanbul. Turkey is a big country, and there is trade here,” the jeweler stated.
Last year, he participated in the annual Yerevan Show international jewelry exhibition because he really wanted to see Armenia after ten years.
“I am not very much aware of the market in Armenia. It was important for us to see Armenia and meet new people. Armenia has good jewelers. The only thing the country needs to do is to advertise a little more,” Karrapekmez added.
