Knesset MP: “It is our moral obligation to recognize the holocaust of the Armenian nation”

Chairman of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of the Knesset Ya’akov Margi has announced that the Committee recognizes the Armenian Genocide.
“It is our moral obligation to recognize the holocaust of the Armenian nation,” Ya’kov Margi was quoted saying, according to yerkirmedia.am.
Member of the Knesset Zehava Gal-on, who organized the session of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, particularly said the following:
“Each year we instill false hope in the people sitting here. It is a disservice to the Knesset to continue going on and on about this issue, year after year, without reaching a decision that the State of Israel and the Knesset recognize the genocide of the Armenian people.”
Members of the Knesset Nachman Shai, Dov Kenin and Zoher Bahlon shared this opinion.
Member of the Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem Georgette Avakian stated that, 101 years after the Armenian Genocide, the time has come for the Knesset to join the parliaments of more than 20 countries that have already recognized the Armenian Genocide.
“The Knesset and the head of state must recognize the genocide of our people,” she said.
Chairman of the Committee Ya’kov Margi regretted the fact that the Knesset still hasn’t made a decision and called on the Speaker of the Knesset to keep the promise that he made at the Ministry of Education last year.
