Equipment to be purchased for Artsakh army with donations from Australian-Armenian community
The telethon for support to Artsakh in Australia helped raise $112,000.
This is what executive administrator of the Armenian National Committee of Australia Arin Markarian stated in an interview with “Armenpress”, emphasizing the fact that the telethon saw quite a big turnout.
“Overall, the donations were from the Armenian community of Australia. I am very proud to announce that the Armenians of Australia were very kind and generous to the people of Artsakh. Our community showed how united and strong it can be to help the brave people of Artsakh. We are very pleased with the results. As the words in the Armenian song “Artsakhn Eh Mez Kanchum, Ognutyan Hasek” (Artsakh is calling, help), I think this community can be proud of its activism and the financial assistance that it provided,” Arin Markarian said.
Markarian emphasized that it didn’t matter how much money was donated since everyone, young and old, had joined the efforts to help Artsakh. The donations started from $10 Australian dollars to $10,000 Australian dollars.
“Of course, the majority of the donators were Armenian, but there were also donations from Greeks and Assyrians. The latter are aware of the Armenians’ current issues and problems,” Arin Markarian added.
All proceeds will go to the Fund for the Independence, Security and Peace of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. There is already an agreement on the use of funds with Artsakh. The first project will be the purchase of equipment that is necessary for the army.
The telethon for support to Artsakh was held on July 18. It was sponsored by Permanent Representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to Australia Kaylar Michaelian and organized by the ARF-D Australia “Dro” Committee and its associated unions, the Armenian National Committee of Australia and Armenia Media Press and Information Association.
