Armenian church and historic bathhouse of Akshehir at risk of collapse

The Armenian church of Akshehir and the historic bathhouse called Gyavur are in a devastating situation in Turkey, as reported Turkish presses, according to Akunq.net.

According to the source, the Gyavur bathhouse is already at risk of collapse, and there are cracks in the walls of the historic Armenian church. For years, there hasn’t been any progress made in the restoration of the church, the certificate of ownership of which pertains to the Municipality of Akshehir.

Built by the Armenian community of Akshehir in the 19th century and later used for cultural events from time to time, the church hasn’t been restored by the Turkish authorities, in spite of many promises.

As highlighted in the press release, the historic church and the Gyavur bathhouse are at risk of extinction.
