Canadian-Armenians’ support to bordering military units
Thanks to the charity act of Vahan and Vardan Manoukian, two more bordering military units now have a couple of puppies of German Shepherds.
This time, several Armenian Americans joined the initiative.
The Manoukian brothers are from Canada and have been supporting the bordering military units for the past two years. In August 2014, they raised funds with other Canadian-Armenians and donated the first two German Shepherds to the military unit under the command of Colonel Vahe Hovsepyan. The puppies were loved from the very first day and became the glory of the military unit, motivating the soldiers and the commanders. In late 2015, there were already 10 German Shepherds watching the border. Today, there are over 50.
“Armies of Western countries use dogs to help ensure border safety. It would be nice to see the Armenian army also use border guard dogs. The selection of this type of dogs wasn’t by chance. The German Shepherd is balanced, active, fearless, extremely smart, flexible, easy to train and loyal,” Vardan Manoukian stated.
Over the past month, 11 German Shepherds were presented to one of the military units located in the northeastern sectors of the Republic of Armenia, and 3 German Shepherds were presented to a bordering military unit of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Another two were transferred to the “Arabo” voluntary detachment.
Armenian Americans Vatche Nshanian, Pir Pilavian, Hamlet Chobanian and the Armenian community of Fresno also joined the pro-national initiative this time.
Vartan Manoukian is certain that the initiative will be ongoing.
