Former London mayor wins contest for poems insulting Erdogan

Former mayor of London Boris Johnson won the contest for poems insulting Erdogan declared by Douglas Murray, columnist for The Spectator Weekly.
According to the website of the Turkish Sozcu newspaper, Murray has published the poem by Boris Johnson on the weekly newspaper’s website. Boris Johnson is one of the major figures of the ruling Conservative Party in the United Kingdom.
In his article on the poem, Murray states that there were better poems than Johnson’s poem, but what really mattered to him was the fact that the British political figure doesn’t respect a person who is accepted as a khalif in Ankara.
“Erdogan can imprison members of the Turkish opposition, Merkel can imprison those who criticize Erdogan, but we in England sleep and wake up freely. We don’t need a dictator to tell us how to think or how to express ourselves,” Douglas Murray said, as reported ermenihaber.am.
The British newspaper’s contest was a unique way of protesting German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s permission to initiate court proceedings against German satirist Jan Bohmerman.
The request for a legal process was submitted by the Turkish government after the satirist read a poem mocking Erdogan on German television.
Upon the permission of the German government, Jan Bohmerman has been charged under Article 103 of the Criminal Code (offending the political figure or organization of a foreign state). Artice 103 provides for imprisonment up to 3 years and, in separate cases-up to 5 years.
