Garo Kebabjian: “Recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh must be achieved through the efforts of organizations of Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia and the Diaspora”

All Armenians have two key objectives to achieve. The first is international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and the second is recognition of the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. This is what Representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the Near East, member of the ARF-D Armenian National Committee Garo Kebabjian said in an interview with Tert.am.

“Recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh must be achieved through the efforts of not only the organizations of Nagorno-Karabakh, but also those of Armenia and the Diaspora. There can be no outcome without combined efforts,” Garo Kebabjian noted.

Last week, the ARF-D Armenian National Committees held a congress in Nagorno-Karabakh where they discussed the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

When told that the Armenian National Committees have always advocated reunification of Western Armenia and asked whether they would now also advocate the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh or not, Garo Kebabjian affirmed that.

“There are members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun at the military positions with their detachments. We are doing everything we can…The motto “No piece of land” is still in effect. All Armenians should adopt this motto, especially since the land that was taken through bloodshed can’t be given,” the NKR Representative in the Near East said.

When told that the Armenian side made certain concessions and that the President has declared the loss of lands that are not strategically significant, Kebabjian said: “The important thing is to win the war, not the battle. This was a battle.

Winning a war is not determined by winning a battle. This was a battle that was perfidiously organized. We Armenians were not ready for it. We believed in the Minsk Group and were surprised, but what happened is already in the past. That is why Armenian children should know how to use guns and have a sharp mind.”

Kebabjian stressed that the four-day war changed the situation, nearly 100 young Armenians were killed and the Madrid or Kazan documents have simply become pieces of paper.

“We suffered casualties, faced a new war and won. The Turks lost. Aliyev kept declaring that he was going to drink coffee or tea in Stepanakert and that he was about to come to Stepanakert, but he rushed and begged to stop the war, or else he would be in a bad situation. We Armenians always need to be ready to resist the Turks’ massacres. A Turk is a wolf, and a wolf never refuses to eat sheep, even if you keep the wolf in a cage and give it special feed every day. It is in their genes. Even if they see sheep 100 years later, they will ravish it. This is the way they are,” the Representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the Near East stated.

He noted that Armenian schools have taught children that Armenians, Turks and Azerbaijanis are friends and brothers, but the Turks have never taught their children that.

When asked if the authorities of the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic are doing everything they can to settle the conflict and reduce tension on the border, Garo Kebabjian said they are and stated that actions need to be taken by not only the authorities, but also every Armenian.
