Mardin Dolzer: “The topic of genocide needs to be included in German school textbooks”

Even if the Bundestag passes the resolution on Armenian Genocide recognition with formulations that are not desirable for us, it will still be the start of more actions to move the issue. According to News.am, this is what Deputy of the Parliament of Hamburg, member of Germany’s Lefts Party Mardin Dolzer said during a May 19 press conference in Yerevan, adding: “Based on our history, we know what genocide means.”

According to the parliamentarian, the German Reich was very well informed about what was going on in the region through its doctors, ambassadors and consuls and had even announced that even if the Armenian people perish, they had to support the Turks, who were their comrades-in-arms. “Unfortunately, today, our federal government is in close cooperation with Erdogan. We don’t see the federal government criticizing Turkey for the Kurdish massacres,” the Deputy said.

According to Dolzer, efforts need to be made to include the topic of genocide in school textbooks at the federal level since only through education will it be possible to help people treat each other with respect.
