Kerry: U.S. wants to see final solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and President of Azerbaijan Ilham ALiyev discussed the issue of Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement at a meeting in Washington. “Armenpress” reports, citing the official website of the Department of State, John Kerry underscored concern about violence along the Line of Contact and the ArmenianAzerbaijani border.
“We want to see a final solution to the frozen conflict of Nagorno Karabakh. The settlement must be through negotiations, upon which we have worked for quite a long time”, John Kerry announced. He emphasized commitment to working with the sides to reach a comprehensive settlement based on the principles of international law, the UN Charter, and the Helsinki Final Act.
Kerry-Aliyev meeting was also focused on the issue of Southern Gas Corridor, by which Azerbaijani gas must be transported to Europe, as well as Azerbaijan’s involvement in NATO missions and human rights issue in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is in Washington to participate in Nuclear Security Summit.
