Tokyo to host Armenian Culture Week

On March 22, the complex of Daikanyama Hillside Terrace Halls will host the inauguration of Armenian Culture Week, which is aimed at not only helping the Japanese society become more familiar with Armenian culture, but also establishing a cultural bridge between Armenia and Japan, reports Assistant to the RA Ambassador to Japan Monica Simonyan to Hayern Aysor.
The weeklong events are organized through the efforts of the Embassy of Armenia in Japan and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, community organizations, Komitas Union, Galeri Ginza Ichome and other companies.
The weeklong events will include showings of the works by young Japanese artist Makoto Maeda and Armenian designer and painter Arev Petrosyan. Japan’s Shogakay Union will present the art of Japanese aesthetics with Armenian motives, and a special hall will showcase the photos and history of Armenian cross-stones. There will also be a corner devoted to the life and career of Sergei Paradjanov.
On March 24, 26 and 27, Tokyo will host an Armenian music festival, which will include Soprano Arax Mansourian’s concert with Japanese pianist Takahiro Akiba. Armenian and Japanese musicians will give joint concerts featuring performances of classical Armenian songs, and a Japanese fencing dance will be presented to the sounds of classical Armenian music.
Screenings of short Armenian and Japanese films will be held on March 26 and 27.
The weeklong cultural events will also include a reception during which guests will be able to taste traditional Armenian dishes and drinks. Armenian produce will be showcased in a separate pavilion by a Japanese company, which is carrying out the One Village One Product Program with the support of the JICA in Armenia.
