Located in the Gugark land of Great Hayk and repaired by the Armenian Bagratuni kings in the 10^th century, the Ardahan Fortress and the Kur River flowing nearby are uniquely beautiful.

In the 11^th century, the fortress went under the dominance of the Georgian Bagratunis. As a result of the two Russo-Turkish Wars in 1828-29 in 1877-78, it was liberated twice and later passed to the Turks again.

Ardahan has been a part of the First Republic of Armenia for almost two years.
