Erdogan: “If another similar violation is committed, Turkey will give the same response”
President of Turkey Recep Tayyib Erdogan talked about the downing of the Russian SU-24 military jet by Turkey’s Armed Forces during a meeting with community leaders on November 26.
According to sondakika.com, in response to Putin’s statement that Russia will give a response in case of a similar incident, Erdogan said that Turkey will give the same response in case of a similar violation.
Erdogan reiterated that only after the downing did Turkey find out which country the plane belonged to.
“We respond to border violations in accordance with the rules for responding to them. It is an automatic response, for which permission has been granted a long time ago. We have dealt with similar cases in the past. In spite of warnings, the unknown jet continued the violations, for which the necessary measures were taken in accordance with the prescribed rules. Ten warnings were given in 5 minutes, and the recordings were broadcast on television. Later, we found out which country the plane belonged to. That also made us sad,” Erdogan mentioned, reports ermenihaber.am.
Erdogan mentioned that Turkey had done everything possible to make sure there were no victims, but Russia gave responses that had nothing to do with the incident.
“Turkey has a strategic partnership with Russia. We don’t want to create any more tension in the region. We have no reason to choose Russia as a target. Our discord with Russia over the Syrian issue is one thing, taking necessary measures for the border violation is another thing. If the same violation is committed, Turkey will give the same response,” the President of Turkey emphasized.
