Buenos Aires hosts chess tournament

On November 21, the Alex Manoogian Center of the Buenos Aires Chapter of the Armenian General Benevolent Union hosted the closing ceremony of the annual inter-school chess tournament dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. The tournament was organized by the Municipality of Buenos Aires and the Ministry of Education and sponsored by the AGBU, report Hayern Aysor’s sources in Argentina. The tournament was held with the participation of 150 students. By the decision of the Ministry of Education, the tournament was launched with a symbolic opening ceremony on April 23 and was entitled “Remembrance and Demand: On the Occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide”.

For the past 25 years, the Ministry of Education of Buenos Aires has been organizing chess tournaments for the students of private pre-schools of Buenos Aires, and the AGBU Marie Manoogian School and the school located on the Armenian-populated Vicente Lopez Street participated in the tournament for the first time ever.

Let us also add that a proclamation has been signed between the AGBU and the Ministry of Education of Buenos Aires. The proclamation was signed by AGBU Chairman Hambartsum Halajian and representative of the Ministry of Education Ricardo Urrest and was validated by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Argentina Alexan Harutyunyan.
