Turkey has closed border with Syria

Human Rights Watch has released information according to which Turkey has completely closed the border with Syria and that Turkish border guards are persecuting Syrian refugees wishing to cross the border.

As reports the Turkish Hurriyet reports, Human Rights Watch has released a report based on the interviews conducted with 51 Syrians having fled to Turkey as a result of the bombings and armed conflicts that took place in mid-October, writes ermenihaber.am.

According to the report, all the Syrians having participated in the interviews have only been able to enter Turkey illegally. The interviewees mentioned that hundreds of Syrian men, women and children are forced to cross the border illegally as they try to pass the road full of difficulties.

Human Rights Watch’s refugee expert Gary Simpson has made the following comment on the issue: “Turkey’s closure of the border with Syria is forcing the pregnant women, children, patients and injured people of Syria wishing to save their lives to escape from the persecutions of Turkish border guards. To this day, Turkey has generously received Syrian refugees and has the right to control its borders for security considerations. However, it shouldn’t force the refugees to return to the war zone.”
