Lithuania’s Kaunas hosted events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide

Throughout November, the A. Martinaitis Art School of the Lithuanian city of Kaunas, under the sponsorship of the Municipality of Kaunas and with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Lithuania, organized several events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, including the exhibitions devoted to Armenia with the titles “Small Land, Great Nation” and “The Armenian Genocide on the Front Pages of Foreign Newspapers”, reports the RA MFA press service.

On November 1, which is All Saints’ Day for all Catholics, the art school held a candlelight ceremony in memory of the 1.5 million canonized martyrs of the Armenian Genocide with Archbishop Sigitas Tamkyavichus of Kaunas.

On November 19, the participants of the “Small Land, Great Nation” exhibition-competition received their awards during the event that marked the end of the series of events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. RA Ambassador to Lithuania Ara Ayvazyan and Director of the A. Martinaitis Art School Zhigimantas Sharakauskas gave their welcome speeches at the event.

The event included performances by the Ratilelis Folk Ensemble and the Hairenik Ensemble of the Armenian community of Kaunas. Students of the Vitautas Magnus University read excerpts from the “Book of Tragedies” by Grigor Narekatsi.

Among the guests were representatives of religious organizations, the Municipality of Kaunas and the Armenian community of Lithuania, as well as artists and representatives of the school.
