Turkish presses and certain political circles continue to speak out about the exhibition of photos of the Armenian Genocide that has been opened in the Chankaya District of Ankara.
As reports ermenihaber.am, the pro-government Sabah newspaper writes that many citizens say the authorities of Chankaya have committed treason by granting permission for such an exhibition, and the comment that Deputy Mayor of Chankaya Nafiz Kaya left on his Twitter page has raised a wave of discontent. Kaya particularly wrote the following: “We take pride in hosting this exhibition.”
Let us mention that on this occasion, Mayor of Ankara Melih Giokcek, who is known for his anti-Armenian moods, posted the following comment on his Twitter page: “Shame on the authorities of Chankaya. An Armenian photographer has opened an exhibition of photos of the Armenian massacres. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting this from you, Alper Tashdele.”
Let us remind that the opening of the exhibition was held with the participation of assistant to the leader of Turkey’s major oppositional People’s Republican Party (CHP) sezgin Tanrikulu, Deputy of the CHP from Konya Atilla Kart, Professor Baskin Oran and former Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey Ertughrul Gyunay. The exhibition is organized by the local self-government bodies of Chankaya and will run until November 22.
The exhibition is called “Testimonies about the Lost Past of an Armenian Family” and showcases the works of Armenian photographers Tsolag and Aram Dildilian. The photos portray the story of the Dildilians, as well as the lives and destinies of the Armenians who lived in Anatolia during the era of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey, the Armenian Genocide and the migration.
