Armenia Parliament passes bill on voting with ID cards

The drafts on making additions and amendments to the Electoral Code and the Law on Identification [(ID)] Cards were approved by a vote of 94 for, 13 against, and 18 abstentions—and in the second and final reading—at Wednesday’s special session of the National Assembly of Armenia.

Accordingly, the Armenian citizens will now be able to vote also with ID cards during referendums and elections.

But the opposition MPs, who are against this bill, have noted that this will open the door for multiple voting in Armenia, since it is impossible to stamp a seal on ID cards, as it is the case when voting with passports.
