Turkish political parties have released the lists of candidates ahead of the upcoming snap parliamentary elections in Turkey.
As reports “Armenpress”, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the oppositional Kemalist Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) have nominated once again their Armenian candidates, who won the June 7 elections.
The ruling party’s candidate is famous Istanbul-Armenian journalist and writer Margar Yesayan, who is also former editor-in-chief of Taraf newspaper. The CHP’s candidate is Istanbul-Armenian lawyer Melina Ozugun Dogan, the first Armenian woman deputy in the Turkish Mejlis.
The pro-Kurdish HDP has nominated Karabet (Karo) Paylan, who is the principal of an Armenian school in Istanbul’s Yeshilkyoy District and has a high reputation in the Armenian community of Istanbul.
After garnering 40.66% of the votes in the June 7 Turkish parliamentary elections, the AKP didn’t manage to form a single-party coalition. The Kemalist Republican People’s Party garnered 25.13%, the “Nationalist Movement” Party garnered 16.45%, and the Kurdish People’s Democratic Party garnered 12.96%.
Based on the results, out of the 550 mandates, the AKP received 258, the CHP received 132, and the “Nationalist Movement” Party and the HDP each received 80. To form a coalitional government, the AKP launched negotiations with the Kemalist party, but those negotiations failed. As a result, after the prescribed 45-day term, Turkey announced that snap parliamentary elections would be held on November 1, 2015.
