One of the most remarkable events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide was the Holy Mass that Pope Francis served in memory of the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide at the Vatican on April 12, 2015.
A film devoted to this event will soon be aired on television stations in Armenia.
The film is by poet, publicist and screenwriter Sako Areian, who is originally from Lebanon and moved to the homeland a couple of years ago.
In an interview with “Azatutyun”, Areian said he had received an offer from the information center of the Armenian Patriarchate named after Narekatsi. “We visited the Vatican, attended the Holy Mass and created a 35-minute documentary film. I found it appropriate to rename it as “The New Era of the Armenian Sacrament”. I must say that the production of this film was the first collaboration between Shoghakat TV and the Catholic community.”
Sako Areian said the film has already been translated from Western Armenian into Eastern Armenian and will soon be aired on Shoghakat TV.
Areian stressed the fact that it’s very important to talk about the Holy Mass served at the Vatican this year since it’s not always that Armenia correctly appreciates the role of the Vatican.
“The Vatican is one of the world’s most powerful and most centralized powers of the Christian world with a strong foundation, and it has its say when it comes to discussions on the political agenda. After the Pope’s announcement, prior to April 24th and the events held in Yerevan, at Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and at the Holy Etchmiadzin, the Armenian “tsunami” reached the heart of civilization in Europe,” said Sako Areian.
