Armenian cyclist becomes European champion for the first time ever

Armenia’s cyclist, 18-year-old Edgar Stepanyan went down in the history of Armenian sports after winning the title of European champion in the Scratch category (40 km group bike race) at the European Youth Cycling Tournament held in Athens, Greece. For the first time ever, an Armenian cyclist scored a gold medal in Europe. In his honor, the national anthem of Armenia was performed and the tricolor Armenian flag was waved at the cycling square in Athens, reports the Cycling Federation of Armenia to Hayern Aysor.

Armenia’s other representatives also performed excellently, including Mher Mkrtchyan and Pavel Stepanyan. In the previous season, the team trained very well during the training session in Tsaghkadzor under the leadership of chief coach Armen Gyozalyan and managed to achieve satisfying results in a short period of time. The team’s mechanic Arsen Boryan also made his great contribution to the team’s victory with his good work.

On the occasion of the team’s brilliant victory, President of the Cycling Federation of Armenia and Head of the Department of State Property Management adjunct to the Government of the Republic of Armenia Arman Sahakyan congratulated the Armenian cyclists, wished them more victories and assured them that the Cycling Federation of Armenia would progress and make more efforts to be properly presented at future championships.
