US professor: Sanctions should be imposed against Turkey on Armenian Genocide issue
The international community needs to take multilateral action against Turkey; it should not only apply pressure, but impose sanctions against this country.
Humboldt State University (USA) Professor Maral Attallah, who is participating in the International Association of Genocide Scholars’ conference being held in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In Attallah’s words, it is apparent that a greater international pressure is in need against Turkey, since the latter’s government has done nothing toward recognition of the Armenian Genocide. She noted that the Turkish side lies when saying it wishes to start a dialogue; in reality, it just wants to implement its own plans.
The professor added that the countries, which have recognized the Armenian Genocide, should stand up and say to Turkey that they do not accept its threats, and they recognize the genocide.
As per Maral Attallah, the Turkish government also violates the right of free speech, as it forces even its own citizens to remain silent on the Armenian Genocide issue.
