Vazashen-Paravakar bypass is already safe and passable

The road that was built to bypass the dangerous Vazashen-Paravakar sector of the Aygehovit-Vazashen-Paravakar-Aygepar interstate road of Tavush Province and to help residents move safely, has been exploited, writes armradio.am. A 150 meter long and 5.5 meter high protective wall has been built for safe traffic in the Vazashen-Paravakar sector, which can be seen from the Azerbaijani military positions and is visible for Azerbaijani snipers.

The Vazashen-Paravakar sector of the Aygehovit-Vazashen-Paravakar road of Tavush Province is safe and passable for all types of cars. The major road was opened a couple of days ago. Let us remind that the construction of the new alternative road became a necessity after Azerbaijani soldiers fired shots towards the Vazashen-Paravakar road on 22 October 2013, killing 1 soldier of the Armenian army and injuring 3 people.

The decision to build the road was legalized during the government session held on 6 February 2014. The government allocated over AMD 875 million from the State Budget for construction of the 3.2 km long and 6-7 m wide road. Construction was supposed to end on 30 June 2014, but there were some hindering circumstances to end construction on time.

The first one to blame was the Ijevantchan construction firm, followed by the poor weather conditions. The government annulled the agreement due to the fact that the deadline had been violated, and the new client demanded an additional AMD 55 million to finish the job. According to a new agreement signed on 25 September 2014, “Khachhar” Ltd. carried out the activities and promised to finish on 30 October. However, the sharp change of weather conditions and the high number of precipitations didn’t let the company finish on time since it would be impossible to have high-quality asphalt on the wet road. That’s why the Ministry of Transport and Communication decided to end road construction.

Groundwork has been done in the sector that can be bypassed, gravel has been placed, and an asphalt-concrete cover has been laid. The solutions applied for the road will ensure full safety. The builders ensuring safe traffic and building the back wall worked face-to-face with Azerbaijan’s military bases during the entire construction.

In one sector of the Aygehovit-Vazashen-Paravakar road, which can be seen from the Azerbaijani military positions, was built for safe traffic and as a protective shield that will be 150 m long and 5.5 m high. The six bends, which are 10-12 meters wide, make the transportation of large trucks comfortable. It reduces the length of the Vazashen-Paravakar sector by 2 km. The former dangerous road will be closed.
