More than 2 mln Turks are illiterate
Turkey’s statistical service has released information about the level of education of the country’s population in 2014. Based on the information, 3.87 percent (2.66 mln) of citizens who are 6 years old or above the age of 6 are illiterate.
According to the Turkish Bugün, writes ermenihaber.am, 25.81 percent of citizens who are 15 years old and above have primary education, 18.45 percent went to elementary school, 8.64 percent received secondary education or education equivalent to that, 21.92 percent graduated from high school or are a graduate of an equivalent institution, 12.95 percent have graduated from universities, 1.901 percent have Master’s Degrees and 0.28 percent have scientific rankings.
The first among “the most literate” states in Turkey is Antalya, followed by Izmir and Tekirdag. The first among “the illiterate” states is Siirt (historic Sgert), followed by Mardin and Shanliurfa (Yedesia).
