The “Armenia and the Armenians during WWI” virtual museum was officially presented at the French Embassy in Armenia on June 29 within the framework of the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and the “Rotond Meetings” organized by the French Embassy in Armenia. The focus was on the galleries devoted to the Armenian Genocide, writes News.am.

The museum, the idea of which was born in 2014 on the occasion of the 100^th anniversary of WWI and received documents devoted to the Armenian Genocide as additions in 2015, was created through the combined efforts of the National Archives of Armenia and the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France.

The goal of the virtual museum is to provide the public at large in Armenia and in the Diaspora, as well as scholars with more detailed information about the local, historical and diplomatic aspects of Armenia during the First World War, the human tragedy that was a consequence of the Armenian Genocide, as well as information about how Armenia managed to resist, get back on its feet and the indescribable trials and tribulations that gave the country power to shape its future.

The virtual museum has four galleries.

The “France and Armenia” Gallery provides a panorama of French-Armenian relations.

The “Caucasus Enters the War” Gallery presents the Armenian Cause on the background of military and international operations.

The” Armenian Soldiers at all Fronts” Gallery presents Armenian soldiers in the Caucasus, France, the East and Cilicia.

The “Genocide: A Crime against Mankind and Civilization” Gallery presents the history, testimonies of the massacres, the responses from great powers and the assistance provided to the victims.

The galleries will have additions and will include texts, photos and documents from the archives of France and Armenia and a large library of films produced in different languages.

The other two galleries will gradually receive additions, providing the opportunity to present new stories.

The commentaries will soon be translated into Armenian and English. Upon desire, there will also be digital exhibitions for schools and associations on the basis of the submitted documents.
