The call of the Minister of Diaspora should be viewed as a normal business proposal: Armenian Deputy PM

Armenia’s Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan is doing everything possible to carry out new economic projects in Armenia. This is what RA Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan mentioned during a press conference at the National Assembly, according to News.am.

“The Prime Minister is hopeful and is taking all possible measures to make sure the implementation of those projects begins in the second quarter of this year. I’m also working on that. True, the slowdown of the economy isn’t creating preconditions for activation in the region, and that’s why I’m giving evaluations with precaution,” Gabrielyan declared.

According to Gabrielyan, we shouldn’t say that there is no development program being carried out at all. “I can bring up just one example. We’re already leading negotiations over the construction of several large dams,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.

Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan also urged journalists to treat Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan’s call to all Diaspora Armenians to invest in Armenian banks seriously. According to him, that should be viewed as a normal business proposal. “Let’s take, for example, Lebanon’s economy. There is a tremendous amount of money in Lebanese banks because the Armenians of Lebanon are used to keeping large amounts of money in Lebanese banks. The bank’s funds exceed the country’s GDP by several times. The question is whether Armenia has such banks that can offer such services and engage investors with those services or not. If Armenia has such banks, then there will be progress. I know people who visit Armenia without any money deposited in Armenian banks,” Vache Gabrielyan said, according to lragir.am.
