Turkey’s pro-Kurdish party supports opening of border with Armenia and genocide recognition

Turkey’s pro-Kurdish and oppositional People’s Democratic Party (HDP), which obtained 80 mandates in the June 7 parliamentary elections and is represented in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), has issued pro-Armenian statements.

According to Haberazerbaycan.com, vice-chairman of the HDP for foreign affairs Nazmi Gur has announced that his party supports the normalization of relations with Armenia and the opening of the border.

According to Ermenihaber.am, Gur, who gave an interview to Russia’s RIA Novosti, also mentioned that the HDP wanted to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“We support the implementation of the Protocols for the normalization of relations with Armenian and the opening of the border. Turkish-Armenian relations must not be linked to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. Armenia and Azerbaijan must settle the conflict through negotiations. We also want the genocide perpetrated against the Armenians in the Ottoman era to be recognized,” Gur mentioned.
