Azerbaijan now blames Armenian lobby for the country’s failure to hold the European Games in Baku

The international community’s negative attitude towards Azerbaijan ahead of the First European Games in Baku and the fact that the leaders of many states have refused to participate in the opening ceremony has made Azerbaijan seek the phony culprits responsible for the situation. As always, Armenia and the Armenian Diaspora are on the horizon. This time Azerbaijan’s APA News Agency is blaming the Armenian National Committee of America to justify the behavior of the states refusing to participate in the European Games. As reports “Armenpress”, APA has published an article mentioning that the Armenian National Committee of America is behind the calls to boycott the European Games in Baku. Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America Aram Hamparian posted a Tweet on his Twitter page. It seems as though APA wasn’t satisfied with the Tweet. In addition, it cited a “historical background” of the ANCA, mentioning that the latter is “the largest and most extremist Armenian organization in the USA.” Earlier, the same pro-government news agency had fired allegations against Greece and the EU, mentioning that the latter are secretly working with European countries and urging them to not participate in the opening ceremony of the European Games in Baku. Later, of course, Greece and the EU officially denied the misinformation, stating that the news agency had made a discrediting statement. Germany has already refused to participate in the opening ceremonies in Azerbaijan. According to German mass media outlets, neither the Chancellor nor the foreign minister will be attending the opening ceremonies in Baku on June 12. France won’t be represented by any official in Baku either. According to the statement by French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Pascal Monie, the only official to be representing France at the opening ceremony will be French Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Pierre Andrieu.
