Armenia to be represented with “Red Hail” performance devoted to the Armenian Genocide at 13th Prague Quadrennial

Armenia will be represented with the “Red Hail” performance devoted to the Armenian Genocide at the 13th Prague Quadrennial to be held from 18 to 28 June, reports PanARMENIAN.Net.

The Quadrennial is the world’s largest festival of performance design organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the European Union. It is held once every four years. Since 1967, the works of legends such as Salvador Dali, Oscar Neymeyer, Joseph Svoboda, Robert Wilson and others have been presented at the Quadrennial.

Armenia first participated in the Prague Quadrennial in 2011 through the efforts of performance designer Nelly Barseghyan. In 2015, Armenia was granted the right to participate again, and this time with the play “Red Hail” by performance designers Lilit Stepanyan and Nelly Barseghyan. The music for the play is by world famous musician and composer Tigran Hamasyan and photographer and director Vahan Stepanyan.

The project is being carried out at the initiative of the Eywa Foundation for the Arts with the support of the RA Ministry of Culture and the directorate of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund in charge of carrying out events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

The “Red Hail” stage installation is the result of the influence of Tigran Hamasyan’s music and the photo taken by Norwegian missionary Bodil Katharine Bjorn, who provided assistance to the Armenians during the Genocide.

In addition to the main exhibition of the Prague Quadrennial, during the Armenian Day event to be held on June 23, photographer Vahan Stepanyan will also present the Last Survivor of the Armenian Genocide project, which he has created in association with PAN Photo Agency.
