An article covering the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and the participation of members of the German Youth Association in the commemorative ceremonies in Yerevan has been posted on the website of the Association’s official Entscheidung magazine, writes Panorama.am.

The article states that several members of the German Youth Association visited Yerevan and participated in the commemorative ceremonies on the occasion of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

During their visit to Yerevan, the guests participated in the ceremony of Canonization of the victims of the Armenian Genocide and the ceremonies held at Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex.

The author of the article goes on to present the positions of German society and the German government on the Armenian Genocide, the statements made by the German government and the German Bundestag, as well as attaches special importance to the statement by President of Germany Joachim Gauck, who in his April 23 speech, called on viewing the events of 1915 as genocide and condemn it.

The article states that Joachim Gauck’s speech was well received in Armenia and presents the speech by leader of the youth wing of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Karen Avagyan in relation to this.

In his speech, Karen Avagyan particularly said: “I attach special importance to the speech that President of German Joachim Gauck gave during the ceremony commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Mother Cathedral in Berlin. Overall, the ways of recognition vary. I heard the words of a strong, caring, persistent, heartfelt and assertive person from the altar of the church…

The President might not hear what I have to say, and perhaps there is no need for that. I don’t know what German historians will write about Joachim Gauck, but I know one thing for sure-Armenian historians will remember Joachim Gauck with pleasure, and he will be remembered for centuries. This is one thing that I know for sure.”
