Belgian party leader: One can’t play with the Armenian Genocide

One can’t play with the Armenian Genocide, Benoît Lutgen, President of Belgium’s Humanist Democratic Centre party, said in response to the claims made by the Turkish MP Mahinur Özdemir on her expulsion from the party for denying the Armenian Genocide, News.am reports.

According to the Belgian newspaper La Libre, Özdemir sent a video message from Turkey, in which she informed of appealing the decision of the Political Bureau of Humanist Democratic Centre. However, according to Benoît Lutgen, her reappointment does not seem realistic.

“One can’t play with the Armenian Genocide,” he said, noting that Özdemir used neither the word ?genocide,’ nor ?Armenians’ in her numerous public statements during the last days. Lutgen said that genocide is “not a joke,” but a wish to eliminate a whole nation, human after human, child after child. According to him, his party was always clear about its stand on the given question, and its members have signed a Code of Ethics.

Belgium’s Humanist Democratic Centre party expelled Mahinur Özdemir, Brussles MP of Turkish descent for refusing to acknowledge the Armenian Genocide. Earlier, the party’s President Benoît Lutgen said that if there was an Armenian Genocide denier in the party, they would be immediately expelled.
