Turkish intellectual: “Turkey’s Prime Minister was calling Merkel 5 times a day, asking her not to recognize the Armenian Genocide”

Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a standard for being a human being, and the Turkish government must acknowledge the Armenian Genocide. This is what Germany-based Turkish intellectual, member of the faction of the Lefts in the Parliament of Hamburg Hasan Burgucuoglu said during a May 13 press conference. Burgucuoglu has escaped from Turkey for his views and has settled in Germany.
“I’m also an accomplice since my ancestors also participated in the genocide. The genocide still continues. The people living in the territory of Western Armenia live as if nothing happened,” Burgucuoglu said, adding that the eastern sector of Turkey, meaning Western Armenia, was the most developed place in the Ottoman Empire. According to him, Turkey still hasn’t reached the level that existed in Western Armenia before 1915.
According to the MP, the word ?genocide’ is not found in the draft law being circulated in the Bundestag and is very blurred. “However, the word ?genocide’ was included in my political party’s statement,” he said, writes PanARMENIAN.Net.
The Germany-based Turkish intellectual noted that each person says the events of 1915 were genocide, without using the term ?genocide’. They describe the crime in detail, without saying it was genocide.
“Recently, Davutoglu has been calling Angela Merkel five times a day, asking her not to recognize the Armenian Genocide. It’s very important for the Turkish government, but at the end of the day, things need to be called by their names. It was genocide,” Burgucuoglu declared.
He also said there was a need for a unified document. Talking about time frames, he specified that their opponents want the draft law to be circulated in the Bundestag for a couple of years. “If the government doesn’t want it, nothing will work out,” Burgucuoglu said.
Three draft laws condemning the Armenian Genocide have been sent to the Foreign Affairs Committee and have been placed into circulation in the German Bundestag. The draft laws will also be discussed during the sessions of the Human Rights Committee and the European Affairs Committee. One of the draft laws has been submitted by the Lefts Party, the other by the Greens Party, and the third unified draft law has been submitted by the ruling coalition. There are no specific dates for consent and the final vote for the resolution. Chancellor Angela Merkel was also attending the discussion on the Armenian Genocide at the Bundestag on April 24th.
