Second business forum of Armenian Trade Network (ATN) continued

On May 12, the 2nd Business Forum of the Armenian Trade Network, which is being held at the initiative of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and the Armenian Trade Network (ATN) and in cooperation with the unions of manufacturers and businessmen of Armenia and Artsakh, continued with three plenary sessions held with the participation of representatives of Armenian chambers of commerce and industry, unions of businessmen abroad and large commercial organizations of Armenia, as well as businessmen from Armenia, Artsakh and other countries around the world.
The participants discussed issues related to business investments and the improvement of the business climate in Armenia and Artsakh.
The first plenary session was entitled “Promoting Universal Networking” and was moderated by member of the ATN executive board Hrach Gaspar.
In his speech, Armenian businessman, public figure and benefactor Vahagn Hovnanian welcomed the forum for businessmen interested in Armenia and attached importance to the need to make investments in the Homeland.
Development Director for Grant Thornton Michel Triballeau delivered a speech on “Opportunities in the Changing Global Economy”.
RA First Deputy Minister of Economy Garegin Melkonyan presented the position of Armenia’s economy in the global market, as well as the opportunities for integration and development. The speaker also attached importance to the exchange of information and experiences.
Vice-President of the Argentina-Armenia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, President of Edelflex (Argentina) Miguel Harutiounian mentioned that now there are many interesting and favorable conditions for making investments in Armenia.
The second session was devoted to fostering a business climate in Armenia. The session was moderated by President of the Armenian-Iranian Chamber of Commerce Levon Aharonian, who attached special importance to the need to make investments in the field of agriculture, use free land parcels and help villagers by providing them with fertilizers, seedlings and technical equipment.
RA Deputy Minister of Finance Vakhtang Mirumyan talked about the tax reforms in Armenia and the upcoming changes to be made in the business service sector. Presenting the advantages of taxing and customs to be seen after Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, he particularly mentioned that contracts have been signed with the relevant bodies of EEU member states to rule out double taxation.
In his speech, Director General of Yerevan Beer CJSC Ashot Baghdasaryan expressed confidence that the forum would contribute to the development of the investment climate and mentioned 10-15 reasons why one can make investments in Armenia, setting aside the presence of the market, the lack of taxes for exporting, the reformed tax law and the presence of a well-educated task force. “All Armenians need to combine their efforts and achieve high results,” Ashot Baghdasaryan added.
In his speech on “Long-Term Investments Sector”, Executive Director of Synopsis Armenia Hovik Musayelyan attached importance to the presence of gifted youth in Armenia and the progressive and innovative ideas.
The third plenary session was entitled “Changes for the Improvement of the Business Climate” and was moderated by former RA Minister of Finance, Adviser to the RA Minister of Finance Levon Barkhudaryan.
Head of the Department of International Relations at Yerevan Municipality David Gevorgyan delivered a speech in which he touched upon the opportunities for investments in Yerevan.
Deputy Executive Director of IDeA Foundation Sergey Tantushyan made interesting observations about the directions and opportunities for the development of tourism in Armenia.
Executive Director of the U.S.-based IIG Services Alek Baghdasarian touched upon the peculiarities of the business climate in Artsakh.
The forum was summed up by President of the Armenian Trade Network, Canadian-Armenian Vahram Pirjanian, who expressed gratitude to the participants and voiced hope that the discussions would serve their goal and would lead to results in practice.
