Armenian pavilion to open at Venice Biennale on St. Lazar Island
The pavilion of the Republic of Armenia will open at the Venice Biennale at St. Lazar Island on May 6.
Representatives of the Art for the World company, which is in charge of creating the Armenian pavilion, told “Armenpress” that the May 16-October 18 Biennale will showcase the works of 15 Armenian artists from different countries around the world.
In the year that is symbolic for all Armenians, by the proposal of the RA Ministry of Culture, most of the Armenian participants at the 56th Venice Biennale will be Diaspora Armenians.
The curator for the Armenia pavilion at St. Lazar Island of the Mekhitarist Congregation will be Adelina Chuberian Fon Fustenberg.
The catalog includes Swiss-Armenian poet Vahe Godel’s French translations of the works of 12 Armenian poets born after the Armenian Genocide and the Russian Revolution.
The “Armenity” exhibition will be devoted to deportation, territories, justice and reconciliation, ethical norms and flexibility. The works of the artists show how the artists remember their origins, regardless of where they were born. It is where the grandchildren of Armenian Genocide survivors rebuild “the destroyed identity”.
The Armenian Diaspora at the Armenian pavilion will be represented by Haig Aivazian (Lebanon), Nigol Bezjian (USA and Syria), Anna Boghiguian (Canada and Egypt), Hera Byuyugtashian (Turkey), Silvina Der-Meguerdichian (Argentina and Germany), Rene Gabri and Ayrin Anastas (Iran, Palestine and the USA), Mekhitar Garabedian (Belgium), Aykaterini Gesisian (Greece), Yervand Gianikyan and Angela Ricci Luci (Italy), Aram Zivilyan (USA), Nina Khachadourian (USA and Finland), Melik Ohanian (France), Mikayel Ohanjanyan (Armenia and Italy), Rosanna Palazian (Brazil), Sarkis (Turkey and France) and Hrair Sarkisian (Syria and Great Britain).
