Artsakh’s Tsaghkashat village to host Jengyalov Hac Festival

On April 29, for the first time ever, the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will organize the first “Jengyalov Hac Festival” near the Nikol Duman Home-Museum in Tsaghkashat village of Askeran region as part of the plan for the protection of intangible cultural heritage, assistant to the NKR Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs Arevik Hovsepyan told hetq.am.

Each region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will be represented by people who are professionals and have the skills in making Jengyalov Hac, which is the most popular dish in Artsakh. The Jengyalov Hac will be prepared and served in an interesting way during the festival.

The goal of the festival is to preserve and popularize the values of Artsakh’s intangible cultural heritage, as well as instill in people to care for and respect national customs and traditions and ethnographic attributes.

Jengyalov Hac is considered “the business card” for the cuisine of Artsakh. This unique dish made from flour, herbs, vegetable oil and spices has been made in Artsakh for a long time and was recalled in the late 19th century when poems were written in Artsakh.

In 2013, Jengyalov Hac was included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Artsakh Republic, which was approved by the NKR Government.

The Jengyalov Hac Festival is the third event that is being organized by the NKR Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs within the framework of the Artsakh Cuisine Festival. In 2014, a Baked Bread Festival was organized in the Khantsk village of Askeran region, and a Mulberry Festival was held in the Drakhtik village of Hadrut region.

The Jengyalov Hac Festival will kick off on April 29 at 13:00. The event will include a traditional reception, interesting games and contests, a concert and other events presenting the culture of Artsakh.

Entrance is free.
