News from Kessab
The RA Ministry of Diaspora is in contact with Mayor of Kessab Vasken Chaparian and several other Syrian-Armenians on a daily basis in order to get reliable news about the Armenians of Kessab and to provide solutions to their issues of concern.
During a recent telephone conversation, RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Serzh Srapionyan and Mayor of Kessab clarified the situation facing the Armenians of Kessab and information about the possible advancement of forces.
The mayor of Kessab informed that the Syrian forces have advanced. Chaparian also underlined the fact that the Syrian army is currently fighting for Kessab, but are moving slowly so that they don’t cause too much harm to the city.
The mayor also expressed gratitude for the Armenians’ protests that Kessab is following and voiced hope that this joint struggle would have a positive outcome.
Our compatriots from Kessab are impatiently waiting to return to their homes. The information about victims isn’t accurate.
The reality is that nearly 38 Armenians have been taken hostage, of which 20 have been released, and talks continue for the release of the remaining 18.
The mayor’s only concern is that foreigners have started settling in the homes of the Armenians from Kessab.
