The U.S. recently declared the actions of ISIS against Yazidis and other ethnic groups as genocide.
Indeed, raping and enslaving Yazidi women and slaughtering Yazidi men is genocide, writes The Huffington Post.
Thus, the meaning of the word that describes the massive and inhumane killings is important.
The Huffington Post states that Professor of the University of Yale Rafael Lemkin coined the term ?genocide’ to try to explain what had happened to the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
So, any nation that discusses the massacres of 1.5 million Armenians simply creates a political ?smokescreen’.
“Genocide happened against the Armenians, and the person who coined the term, recognized the Armenian Genocide. The term was coined to describe the massacres of the Armenians. Due to geopolitical considerations, the U.S. refuses to use that term, but there is no doubt that the Armenian Genocide is a historical fact,” writes The Huffington Post, according to Artsakhpress.
While publicizing modern-day genocides is not a problem, and that is the way it was supposed to be, the world still expects the U.S. to use the term ?genocide’ when describing the Armenian Genocide.
“Unfortunately, the world’s most powerful nation still doesn’t have the moral endurance to completely recognize what the Armenians experience,” as stated in the release.
